Build a cleaner edge around the home

Zone 0 is the immediate area around the structure. It is where windblown embers collect against siding, under decks, in mulch, beside steps, and beneath ornamental plants. A strong Zone 0 project replaces those easy ignition points with a simpler, maintainable edge.

• Remove woody plants, dry grasses, leaf litter, and combustible mulch touching the house.
• Create rock, paver, concrete, or other appropriate noncombustible transitions.
• Separate wood fences, stored materials, and decorative features from vulnerable walls.
• Preserve drainage, access, utilities, and the appearance of the property.

Not just a ring of gravel

A rushed installation can trap water, bury siding, block vents, create weeds, or make snow removal harder. The goal is a durable transition that lowers ignition potential without creating a drainage or maintenance problem.

Where the first five feet intersects a deck, fence, retaining wall, HVAC unit, meter, stair, or window well, the detail matters more than the material alone. Those interfaces should be reviewed as part of the scope.
